It seems like life around our house is always changing. We got married almost five years ago and within six months Brian had a new job and we were buying a house. I switched jobs at the same time, becoming a “work at home wife” in June 2007. Six months later, we began trying to start our family. I opened Baileys Basics in June 2008, offering natural handmade cleaning supplies and simple herbal salves. In 2009 I started sewing, and immediately fell in love. Since then I’ve taught myself to embroider, and become more comfortable crocheting something other than dishcloths. In early 2011 we stopped trying to have children biologically and we’re currently working on becoming foster parents. In the meantime, my interests have changed a bit.
We still use natural products around our house and as few chemicals as possible. We still use herbal remedies as often as possible, and being eco-minded is just as important to us both as it was in 2008. But when it comes to business, I’ve begun to focus more on sewing and creating rather than mixing and melting.
I’ve been wondering for a while what to do with my business. I’m still thinking on it, so this will be a work in progress for some time. I haven’t had good business on Etsy for quite some time, so I probably won’t continue posting to that store. Instead I’ll post items to this blog, or to my website, or to my Facebook store.
Some products will not be offered for sale on a regular basis anymore, but will be available for special 0rder if you’d like. Clean Your Tub! scrubbing powder falls into that category. We use it around the house and I always have it available — just ask! Clean Your Clothes! laundry powder won’t be offered anymore, mostly because my awesome friend Witchy can’t make soap right now…and she was my source for handmade lard soap.
Herbal salves will be available when I have extras on-hand. Herbal teas are something I always keep on hand and so you can special order them whenever you’d like. If there’s an issue you’re having and you’d like advice on a natural way to deal with it, email me for information I may have.
My primary focus right now is all things sewn, embroidered, or crocheted. I’d love to make you some burp cloths, a tag blanket for your baby, a tote bag, simple curtains, or something else you want custom made. If you have a design you’d like on a tea towel, napkins, or a tablecloth, I’d love the chance to embroider them for you. A huge hit around here these days is felt play food, and I’d love to make a set for your favorite little chef! If you have a new baby who needs a gift or you’d like a throw for this winter, email me about crocheting something special for you.
I’ll try to post more pictures of works in progress to this blog, and to show you the craftiness that’s afoot around our house. Please don’t hesitate to email me to see if something is possible!
